Bird House Saturday

So far the continual request for a bird house made of the wood I had left from making canvas stretchers has been difficult for me. We are here every other weekend. And every other weekend we beg to make a bird house. For one thing, I might want that wood for little stretchers. Another thing, I don't have enough wood for a birdhouse. Or the foggiest clue how. So one of the guys started painting.

The other guy shoved gooey gunk up a straw. Because we can.
The oldest brother is out with some friends.


Large paper bird house anyway? Still how is that going to work? I'm working on it!

The Cheezit O'Boyzies are outside for the moment. Things started out rotten but we have mellowed considerably thanks to some chemical intervention. Ugh. Ye non-impulsive non-ADHD people count your blessings. Lord help  me.

The weather outside is frightful. Like 30 degrees. What happened to 60 the other day? It snowed yesterday and even though most of that snow is gone, we haven't really had an increase. The clouds are up there and the sun is out but the cloud cover doesn't seem to be holding any of the warm down. Oh according to the college website it's up to 33 now. We might be okay. Melt snow! The guys are bundled up and coming in and out. So I'm not sure what they're doing. I personally am thinking on the subject of Classroom Managment.

I think I needa check on 'em. He was coming in because he needed to change his pants because his button keeps coming ondone.OMG if that child grows up and moves away What Am I Going To Do?
How is every single thing he does so freaking adorable I could die all over again.

Okay Now I have found two bird house templates which I do not need. I'll make birdhouses by drawing them onto big paper with a ruler. Ta daa.Ok that was easy. In 30 minutes the boy was painting a bird house.

1:57 PM glue the bottom together. This was a little tricky, but if you try this, don't worry if you have to pull the bottom apart and re-fold it. Or, plan ahead if you're like that.  I love this bottle of Gooey Glue from Kid Concoctions! I think glue sticks suck, because in a few weeks the parts are going to start coming apart. This bottle is liquid glue but the applicator (yellow part) acts like a glue stick by spreading the glue so nicely. I still got lumps but that's because I didn't care.

2:05 PM - measuring the roof.

Cut out your roof however big you want and fold it in half. It's a big rectangle. I put the glue on the outside of the tabs, and it ended up being slightly difficult to attach the roof. If you put one side on, then fold it over and sort of squeeze-pinch the house tabs and roof together from the outside, it works okay. In retrospect it would have been simpler to fold the roof attachment tabs outward, put glue on the inside, and attach the roof that way. I made this roof out of some Bristol board Someboy had scribbled on in order to make colorful "prints" with his gooey gunk.

By 2:15 WhinyIWannaCutWoodandMakeaBirdHouse MooooommmmmmmmmBoy was painting happy and still is. He isn't finished, he's working on the front and it's 2:54 PM. 30-ish minutes of work on my part, and probably an hour of bird house painting joy without having to get out any power tools.

Now I can work on my paper.

Now he's hungry for a scrambled egg taco with cheese.
