favorites + playing

Of all the things I've done, I do not think I can pick a favorite! The things in the previous post were all assignments for a class I took this Spring semester. The class was mostly geared towards the non-art-major elementary education majors with the goal of getting them more comfortable with different ways of making stuff & ideas of what they could do with their non-art classes. So imagine me, (I've already got an art degree,) and a class of math, science, English majors all making these projects. The deck was stacked in my favor. I got a lot out of that, too. I had an unfair advantage in the department of "oooh, look what she'd doing over there!"  I will miss that class, it was very therapeutic.

Bauhaus -the idea that mass-production was reconcilable with the individual artistic spirit...
Gropius proclaimed his goal as being "to create a new guild of craftsmen, without the class distinctions which raise an arrogant barrier between craftsman and artist."

A week ago I was thinking about the difference between art and decorations. For example, on a craft blog I read, I saw a shelf thing someone made, and their statement was, "it makes it so easy to change out the art" and I was thinking, hey lady, an old bottle isn't art. I went so far as to solicit opinions about art vs. decorations on Facebook. A friend of mine (from what I have termed "college the first time") had the opinion that people either don't know any better or they don't care whether the stuff they have is actually art, or decoration. It is easy to go to Hobby Lobby and get whatever art supplies you like. It is easy for anyone to think "everything I do is art." The result though, is anyone thinks they can make art, therefore devaluing our (us art majors who actually went to school to learn how to make art) art. His argument was, not everyone thinks they can be a doctor.

Usually I waver between "what right do any of us have to say, no that's not art" and, "hey that really isn't art". On Thursday, having noticed my Facebook post pondering that difference... another classmate from "college this time" asked me if I was having a problem or what. She came to the conclusion for me that, art is something people with money have. People like us, who live in apartments, we have decorations. I guess right now can live with that. The class distinction decides for me.Of course Gropius would not agree.

So now I don't have to worry about it.

Mr. C. made this. It is part of a larger painting of some water and a bridge. I love the bird.
I am totally becoming my Memaw.

Here is a tattoo I drew on somebody's back the other day.
I am not sure Memaw would have drawn on anybody or not.

Today and tomorrow I have boys. Nobody is allowed on the computer anymore because it's summer. Is that a good enough reason? How about, there is no way I'm trusting them to surf the wicked viral internet.

Anymore.

Okay I'm going to "work out" now. Allegedly.
Marching in place does not seem like a workout in my mind,
but it does indeed cause muscle fatigue and heavy breathing.

maybe it is better that it doesn't seem like a workout. 4 painless miles with hand weights are better than nothing. love you!!

I am an art school dropout. I changed my major into computer sciences.Everyone was surprised especially my parents. I am an art biggot. There are very few things I call "art". What I discovered in art school is that I dont have "it". It's humbling but there you go.
