Prayer for the Weary

Dear Holy Spirit.

This child has been fighting me over his homework since we got home from school. Tears, delay tactics, crushing and tearing the papers, whining, tantrums and complaining that dogs are walking by outside. All we had to do was read 15 minutes, write a 3 line summary of what he read, and study spelling. I have been patient. I barely even yelled. Every last nerve in my body has started vibrating to the sound of his voice. I am not unreasonable, nor am I a bad parent. I have evidence the other two seem to be more or less reasonable children who have learned how to do things like showering, making good choices and stuff like that. Please grant me something, grace, extra patience, whatever it may be, because otherwise, O Heavenly Spirit, I am going to stab out my eyeballs and eat lots of ice cream. Amen.
