snips and snails and puppy dogs

Well. Happy Monday. I wish it was still the weekend.

For dinner this weekend J. cooked something he learned about in California, which is something meaty and delicious and it is called "tri-tip" and I'm in love. He got two of them, so that's what we ate on Saturday and Sunday. We ground up some pepper over them, and sprinkled kosher salt, and then splattered Tabasco on there for good measure. Then he grilled them till they were still pink in the middle, and I swear they are way better than prime rib or anything fancy-shmancy like that.

The kids at the health club child care still have snotty noses. I am just about tired of wiping their gooey little faces. Oh and then there was the one who had something all down her shirt. I asked the mom what that was on her shirt and she said it was chocolate. Awesome. She smelled like spaghetti, and absolutely refused to be put down. I had to really juggle that one to get her blankie wrapped around the front of her shirt so I didn't end up with chocolate on me and that sauce odor. Good grief. I keep wondering about that one, she's 19 months old and doesn't talk or walk yet. But she might be one of those kids whose sisters and mom do everything for her. Remains to be seen.

One of them was super funny, I saw him both days I was there. He starts off shy. Kids can only stay for 2 hours per day so for the first hour, he talked in a tiny little voice and I couldn't hear him at all. When I asked him a question he would shrug, which I told him, shrug means yes because if you mean no you just better say no. He was pretty cute and since I'm there till 5, he was one of the last kids there on Saturday so we did a puzzle and started talking, and when he got started talking he never shut up. He told me all about how he helps with the recycling. Then he told me about how his dad did the laundry and bubbles went all over the house. All over the spare bedroom. All over the basement. I told the dad all about this and dad said, "He watches a lot of Curious George!"

So then the next day it was pretty close to time to go, and he was one of the only kids, just standing around staring at me, and I said, "Ok, L. go over to the kitchen set and make me some scrambled eggs and pancakes!"
"I don't know how!" he said.
"Oh well okay what can you make?" I asked him.
"Compost!"

Oh yeah and I think I'm going to end up with the kids' dad's 2 little dogs.
