something wonderful is going to happen

It's Monday and I'm not asleep yet

Oh it is Monday. The day goes by so fast. I am so excited about teaching all day and it is simultaneously so exhausting. The fifth graders were lackadaisical today, but my heart wasn't really in the lesson, I just don't like the way I'm teaching one point perspective on the dry erase board.

It should look like this and it does not!

I think I could do it better with the overhead projector like Ms. M. did for the 6th graders.

The fourth graders were ok, we got things done. The third graders were fairly good, we're working on clay animals. The second graders gave me a run for my money noise-wise. The lessons went well though, I feel like I'm getting the timing of the chunks of information right, or at least better than it felt the few times before. (Is this boring or what? I have to write this stuff down or I'll forget.) The first graders, well the transfer of drawings onto styrofoam is nothing short of painful. The pencils break. The paper breaks (that's okay) the project doesn't really take up enough time to fill the space for everyone, but some people really are taking all the time. It's a matter of being able to take up a project and figure it out, maybe. I instruct. They do.

I was happy happy with the conversation the fourth graders and I had in class about what we were going to do. I talked about it. I asked open ended questions, they knew the answers, and were able to talk about what needed to happen. I love their little voices.

I was happy with the third graders too. I did the "1-2-3-Statues" and they turned into statues. But one of them was a statue on one leg and fell over. So I looked at him in the back of the room and said, "Stand up!" and they all stood up. Then I giggled and clapped in amazement and said, "Sit down!" and they all sat down. I wonder how long we could have kept that up. And their teacher said they were giving her trouble. Maybe she's doing better than she thinks. I think this is her last year though so she might be tired.

I know I'm tired.
