doggie diapers

I sewed six doggie belt thingies for Wee Willie Winkie.

His willie kept coming out of the diaper and he was marking territory at my friend's house. I got "the call" - the sound in her voice was the one I recognized in mine when I just can't deal with the idea of having to do 800 loads of laundry and clean carpets because somebody peed on something. So I cut three wash cloths in half, cut some ticking fabric about the same width but six inches longer, and finally figured out to sew the narrow ends together, then center the wash cloth fabric, sew the long sides so that two tabs of fabric stuck out past the ends of the wash cloth, basically I made a doggie belt. Too much trouble to keep typing how I did it. Then we finally figured out that the iron on hook/loop stuff sucked, so I used liquid fusible webbing, which ended up perfect. Then the belty thing wraps around his waist, so if he decides to mark again, he sort of ends up wetting the diaper instead of marking anything vertical.

He's lucky he's just about one of the sweetest doggies ever or we'd have already dumped him over the fence at my ex's house. But we think he's happier now. Holding him is sort of like holding a tiny baby, he just sort of snuggles up. He is getting playful with the other dogs. He has no idea how to play with toys or people. His eyes are less messed up because my friend keeps putting special stuff on his face so his hair isn't all rusty. My other friend helped her trim his ears and his coat with scissors. I broke my set of clippers trying to clip his hair, and the set of clippers that arrived the same night he did was totally destroyed before it ever got here. She's bringing her leather gloves soon so we (or they) can work on his toenails. It's not his fault he was so neglected by my ex husband. Lucky dog.
