good things

It is raining! I was about to start walking to class but I don't feel like being all sticky and gross for the next 3 hours. I think I'll drive today. Or maybe I'll battle an umbrella and get out there anyway. I hate umbrellas. I have a really cute one. I like it in theory. In practice I pretty much walk in the rain unprotected.

Today this is all I have to show for painting. It was originally just going to be the grass and the sidewalk, and I'm going to paint the blackish dirt lines across the left and lower thirds one horiz. one vert., bisecting at the top right corner of the grass.

I think the bird is adorable. And I know it isn't repulsive. Even though the idea I'm going for is there is too much cement not enough grass, I still don't do repulsive I guess. Unless you are repulsed by the little fake bird. The grass is also surprisingly awesome. Talk about boring to make though! Ugh. I sat there and folded the grass. For ever. And Ever. Am I done yet? Should I make more grass? Is less still more?

Also in this episode:

The main reasons I don't have anything repulsive to say. These adorable creatures.

And the end-result of reverse-applique fest. Like the pearls? I think they look like teeth. In a good way. Like I'm eternally smiling. Or my neck is. Maybe that's good thyroid karma? Wearing pearls every day reinforces what little ladylikeness I've got in me. I sit up much straighter in pearls.

I want some walnart shits! Hahaha!

Lauren, the bird is so very perfect. I spent some time with the photo before reading what you wrote and I totally got that feeling of not having enough grass from the bird. She just says, "What now? Is this all there is?" - at least that's what she is saying to me.

I still don't get the photo. Can you load up the boys and come down here to TX to explain it to me in person? :)

I meant I don't get the shirt thing. It's awesome...I just don't get how you did it. I'm dense.

Oh. Sure. We'll be right down.
Just kidding! Um. The purple fabric is in back. Like, the layered look. Purple tee shirt underneath black tee shirt. Then, the light colored stitches are sewn around the design. For example, you could sew just a circle. The stitches around the circle go through both the purple and black tee to sew the two fabrics together. Then use the scissors to cut away the black (top layer)fabric from the -inside- of the perimeter of the stitched area. The purple (bottom layer) shows through because we made a fleur de lis shaped hole in the black tee.

Great! I'll make coffee and cookies. See you soon! :)

OK, that's what I wasn't getting. I couldn't tell if the purple was painted on or if it was sewn on or what. So is the purple t-shirt sewn onto the black one, or do you just wear a purple t-shirt under the black one?

purple sewn to back of black shirt, top of design cut out... then the rest of the purple tee shirt is cut off to about 1/4" all around the edge of the interior of the teeshirt applique action
