decorating & the Thanksgiving weekend

Those creatures conned me into decorating this past weekend. I was not ready to start this till after finals, at which point I was planning to collapse for a few days and then unearth all the decorative do-hickeys. But they're so cute and I had the energy so I spent forever digging things out of their closet (a very deep closet with an inconveniently situated door at one end) - I'm not sure what I was thinking. I have this habit of putting things way at the back of that closet that I don't want to think about, like my wedding dress. And that's where I put the ornaments and lights and crap, but I don't remember doing it, so perhaps they got shoved there one day when I was going through summer clothes, because the winter/summer storage is also included in that closet. Well anyway, long story short, too late for that, I found them all myself because the little guys took it upon themselves to begin that search, and I really couldn't let them do it all on their lonesome.

Mr. C. was hilarious and vibrated around singing a song about eggnog. He did all the decorations on the silver tree while I did the Peanuts tree.

L. was less interested, having recently discovered the joys of redecorating in Cafe World on Facebook.

These are the after shots. I "wrapped" the paintings to look like presents. The dorky stuffed animals are everywhere, including the broken singing antler flapping reindeer.

And this guy. The Bear-With-Strange-Hat.

At this stage of my life I am not decorating for myself. For the past few years I have neglected the decorating, but now I have come to the conclusion that the only people I need to make happy are those guys, and therefore the mode de decor did not matter much at all to me. I am pleased that I got rid of that big tree and now I do two small trees. One is the Peanuts tree, it has no lights, it is the detatchable top of my old tree, shoved in a green ceramic planter full of red wooden bead garland, decorated with all the little things I have had since I was a little kid. The silver tree was a gift from John last year because I really wanted it, so it has actually been up all year because I meant to decorate it for all the holidays and forgot till just now I was gonna do that.

In other news we spent Friday sitting outside on the cement comfortably playing with sidewalk chalk. Warm temps for late Nov. in Iowa!
Can't believe I cut the top of his head off. He's standing there with a fork & cherry strudel on a plate. Don't have any clue why he needed to bring the strudel out there.

This one says "USA" and that purple thing behind him is a folding chair cover container thingy with the bow & arrows in there, and maybe a cap gun or something. He isn't sitting on it though, he's squatting by his chalk draw-ring.

For Thanksgiving dinner I did it all on Wednesday and supposedly they were at their dad's for Thanksgiving. I went hunting with J. on the river on Thurs. and it was beautiful.

Saturday and Sunday are sort of a blur but I think we did the decorating on Sunday, not positive. Yesterday was Monday. I turned something in today, I am writing 10 pages of opinion for the final term paper in one class. I have two written finals coming up and a take home-watch a movie-final. This is the end of the semester. Can not believe it went so fast.
